Artworks East: Where creativity takes form.

ArtWorks East is an Artists’ Collective on Canada’s East Coast. They consist of over 80 artists, ranging in age from 11 to 80.

Something felt different when this project found its way to my desk.

If there is an opportunity to collaborate with another artist, magic happens. Updating portraits for ArtWorks East would require a different approach. Sure, having them all show up and get cohesive headshots would be easy. Still, we opted against that, leaning into capturing more hands-on, emotive portraits of the artists while incorporating much of their inspiration into each image. I found myself travelling around Guysborough County, visiting each of them in their respective studios or at a place where they gather much of their energy from, or at times, both. The photographs were meant to tell a few stories, but we’ll let the Artist’s creations speak for themselves.
